ADF- Reflecting on Experience, Challenges, and Engagement in Türkiye

As the First Edition of the African Diaspora Forum, organized by Bizim Afrika on February 24, 2024, in Istanbul, Türkiye has been successfully completed, its necessary to get back on highlights from this inaugural Forum, held. This groundbreaking event brought together a diverse array of voices and perspectives to explore the experiences, challenges, and opportunities facing the African diaspora community in Türkiye.

Panel 1: Identity and Belonging in Türkiye-Africa Relations

The panel, titled "Identity and Belonging: Exploring the African Diaspora's Place in reinforcing Türkiye-Africa Relations," delved into the intricate dynamics of identity and belonging while examining the role of the African Diaspora in strengthening Türkiye-Africa relations. Participants engaged in thought-provoking discussions, shedding light on crucial aspects of cultural exchange and community engagement. Moderated by Ms. Fatma Çakır, Turkish Resident in France, the panelists were Mr. Muhammet Ali Aras, Founder of TURCAF, Mr. Moussa Hissein Moussa, Writer, Pan-Africanist Activist, and AKEM Researcher and Mr. Enzo Ikah, Writer and Musician

Panel 2: Building Bridges: Engaging with Türkiye's Society and Business

Under the theme "Building Bridges, engaging with Türkiye's Society and Business," this panel provided valuable insights into navigating the realms of academia, business, and societal integration. Attendees gained practical advice on facilitating successful transitions between academic pursuits and entrepreneurial endeavors, fostering meaningful connections within Türkiye's vibrant social and business landscape.

Moderated by Mr. Sinhan Alex Bogmis, Journalist at Anadolu Agency, the panelists were Mr. Mehmet F. Pehlivan, Head of the Social and Cultural Activities Department at Maarif Foundation and Mr. Abubakar Yaya Mohamadou, Medical Doctor

Panel 3: Charting the Future: Integrating Africans into Türkiye's Community

Concluding the forum, the panel titled "Challenges and Triumphs: Charting the Future for Africans in Türkiye" offered diverse perspectives on successful integration into Turkish society. From community initiatives to professional endeavors, participants explored avenues for overcoming challenges and embracing opportunities for growth and empowerment. Moderated by Prof. Dr. Ayşegül Komsuoğlu, Rector of Nişantaşı University, the panel was enriched with the participation of Mrs. Nazan Yalçınkaya, President of Assalam Istanbul Association, Mr. Abdulkarim Kasongo, Influencer and Manager of HEC Medical, Dr. Süleyman NASIR, Deputy Director of the Health Sciences University's Languages School, and Mr. Atilla Özgür, Manager of Insurance Securance

The African Diaspora Forum marked a significant milestone in fostering dialogue, collaboration, and mutual understanding within the African diaspora community in Türkiye. As we reflect on the insights shared and connections made, Bizim Afrika look forward to continued engagement and collective efforts in shaping a more inclusive and prosperous future for African People in Türkiye.
